Early Video: Los Angeles Double Fatal Apartment Fire, LAFD Social Media on ‘Hiatus’ Over HIPAA Concerns

FireLensMan has posted early video (above) from a fatal fire in Los Angeles which claimed two lives earlier today in Echo Park, as does the second video below by VerdugoScanner

Crews encountered heavy fire conditions on arrival from the two-story apartment building. Nearly 100 firefighters battled the blaze, which took about an hour to bring under control. Three other people were injured and 25 displaced. Echo Park Patch reports investigators are looking into whether an accelerant was used to start the blaze.

Social Media Blackout

Interestingly, City News Service reports that the LAFD social media feeds are now on temporary “hiatus” based on the Tweet below

“All of our social media is on hiatus until we get clarity and develop a plan of how orders are to be implemented in regard to our social media presence,” Humphrey told City News Service. Later, a Battalion Chief told the news service the city was re-evaluating its use of social media because of concerns over violating HIPAA. They department is working on a revamped social media and news release policy.
