Shannon Louder sent us this image, taken of a firefighter from Chesapeake, Virginia’s Station 3. Pictured is Firefighter Goodman, with Shannon aiming to show the “Larger than Life” image a firefighter exudes in full gear. “In my mind, the sun was the fire and if this firefighter were here to rescue you — this perspective would be ‘heroic and larger than life,” Shannon tells us.

And she would know what firefighting is all about — she comes from a fire service family to the extreme. Her Dad, Lt. Robert E. Caughlin II retired from the Chesapeake department after 29 years and step-mom, Sharon, is the Division Chief Supervisor for the department. Her uncle, Newell Whitehead, was the Fire Chief of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia and son Kyle is preparing to join Chesapeake.

There’s a “long history of heroes in my family, this image helps show what I see of all firefighters,” Shannon says.

Louder is a professional photographer who owns Loud Images Photography
