At 5:48am on December 24th, 2012, Engine 125 from the West Webster Fire Department, with Firefighters Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka aboard, responded to what would be their last alarm, gunned down in an ambush that wounded two other firefighters. Stop for a moment today to remember them.

On Sunday, the West Webster FD unveiled to the firefighting community and the public its Fallen Firefighters memorial (pictured) located behind Station 1. The memorial is a stone area with a bronzed statue of a firefighter kneeling as well as a stone tablet with the names of the four firefighters that we have lost etched into it.

Today, a vigil will be held with a private grieving period from 5:30-6:00am, for families and emergency services personnel who responded to the incident. The public is being invited to view the memorial between 8-10am.

The video below, posted by the Monroe County Sheriff, includes an interview by Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn on WXXI along with numerous photos. The department posted “The MCSO mourns the loss of our brothers, but we stand together in the blue line to support the men and women who wear the uniform.” Michael Chiapperini was also a local police officer.
