Hillsborough County, Florida Fire Rescue units responded to a water rescue incident involving a dump truck around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Multiple 911 calls came in reporting that a dump truck had lost control and went into the water off US Hwy 41 just south of Riverview Drive. Upon arrival, HCFR crews confirmed that an adult male was trapped inside the dump truck that had gone inside the Alafia River. The water level was up to the patient’s neck.
Special Operations units were called to the scene which included Heavy Rescue, Marine Unit as well as additional HCFR crews. Fire Rescue crews performed a very complicated extrication to be able to rescue the man and at the same time keep him above water. It took the crews about 20 minutes to rescue the patient. He was transported in very good condition to a local hospital for evaluation. There were no reports of injuries to other civilians or fire rescue personnel.
